Home is where the heart is. One look at these pictures and there is no doubt this family is comfortable at home. It’s like they are screaming “we are the Millers.”  No not the movie . . . but they do look like movie stars!  Even the dog knows how to work the camera.  They are such an awesome family – funny, smart, tall, gorgeous, did I say funny?  So funny.  Did I say tall?  So tall.  I’m so jealous.  We laughed a lot during this backyard family portrait session and yes, I almost had to get out my step stool to overcome my height challenge 🙂  I love shooting at homes because home is always special, always personal, always you.  No matter where life takes you, you’ll have images of the spaces and places your family holds dear . . . the family hammock, the vegetable garden, the backyard, even the front door.  Every spot has a story or two and I love when those treasured spots play roles in the new stories we create.

For the Millers, we captured family snuggles, natural smiles, sparkling light from the backyard trees, real connections and the candid moments in between.  It’s so important to take time to photograph your children because every single day something changes.  It’s also really really important that we, as parents, get in the pictures too.  I encourage all of my clients to join the fun.  The kids LOVE seeing Mom and Dad being photographed and love picking their favorite pictures of their parents.  It always warms my heart to hear a kid say, “Mom, you look so pretty.”  Or “I love that picture of me and Dad.”  Seeing the world through little eyes can be so refreshing.  That’s why getting in the pictures is so important.  The Millers know this and they rocked it.  We giggled, we posed, we relaxed and then we laughed some more.  I want every family I work with to enjoy being photographed because it shows in the final product.  Many times families don’t want the session to end.  It really does happen.

Thank you Millers for asking me to just come do my thing.  My style is a mix of modern lifestyle photography and traditional portraiture.  I think it’s the best of both worlds and I hope my clients agree.
