Sydney’s Stunning Senior Portraits in Charlotte

My girl Sydney is Boston University Bound! And as you will see, she is stunning in BU red! I say “my girl” because she truly is like a second daughter. She graduated from Charlotte Latin School on May 24 and has been friends with my Kate for over six years. They have so much in common and are so similar in their love of academics and the arts. Sydney is also an amazing actress. I knew this photo session was going to be so much fun and that we would create some stunning portraits. I was right on all accounts. She slayed this senior session and her entire senior year.

Mean Girls, Senior Assassin & Most Likely to Star on Broadway

Sydney has so many amazing accomplishments and memories from her time at Charlotte Latin but winning Senior Assassin and playing Cady Heron in Mean Girls topped them all.

“I won senior assassin! I tied for first place and I tied for most kills! I was also in the musical Mean Girls with my best friends and it was the best musical experience ever. I couldn’t imagine a better senior show for us all.”

Senior Assassin cracks me up. For those who are unfamiliar, it’s a water gun game of tag in which the seniors eliminate each other one by one. It’s played outside of school, all around town, at all hours of the night, and often for months before a winner is crowned. It gets very dramatic. And speaking of drama, Sydney was more than just “in the musical,” she played the leading role. She did such an amazing job as did the entire cast. Musical weekend is always one of my favorite weekends of the year. I love seeing these talented students shine! In addition to these highlights, Sydney was voted Most Likely to Star on Broadway along with her best friend and my client Ryan Samii. She also won an Excellence in Musical Theatre Award and was honored for membership in the National Latin Honors Society and the Tri-M Honors Society for Music.

BU Bound!

Sydney belongs to a small but mighty club of students who endured the long, exhausting process of auditioning for collegiate fine arts programs. She landed on top with a placement at one of the best and will be pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theater Performance at Boston University. She did not have high hopes of getting in but apparently, she is not a very good judge:

“I thought I bombed my BU audition, like my worst ever. It’s a really hard school to get into academically too so I truly never thought it would be an option for me. When I got the acceptance it didn’t even register in my brain. I didn’t believe it and I actually emailed the program to double check that the acceptance was valid. I was in shock and of course SO EXCITED.”

That story is one of the many, many reasons why I love Sydney Lawrence. She’s real. She’s funny. She doesn’t take life or herself too seriously. But she knows how to dig her heels in and make magic. She’s going to thrive at BU and I can’t wait to cheer her on. Break a leg, my girl.

Charlotte NC Professional Photographer Abbe McCracken

meet Abbe

Welcome to my blog! I’m a child and family photographer based in Charlotte NC.

Parents always ask, “what if my kid doesn’t listen?” My answer: that’s actually perfect. Don’t tell your children I said so, but personalities shine when listening ears fail. I welcome the silly. I want the giggles. I watch for honest smiles, real connections and stolen family moments.

This applies to your big kids and high school seniors too. Wink, Wink.
