Natural light photography and gorgeous dancers are a match made in heaven in my opinion. But you don’t see it a lot because many dance schools have portraits taken in their studio. I grew up dancing. Hours and hours of ballet, tap, jazz and clogging. I treasure those studio shots too. But this is different and unique. I love how the sparkly natural light (know as “bokeh”) compliments the beautiful lace and sequin costumes. I love how the warm early evening backlight brings out the soft lines of the dancers’ tulle skirts and how the tall field grasses appear to be joining the dance too. During a session devoted to dance photography, we have time to both pose and play. That’s what lifestyle photography is all about … just being you and being photographed doing your thing. These sweet sisters share a love of dance. The older sister – pictured here in off-white – is a competitive dancer. Dance is definitely her passion and she’s great at it. In the images below you will see how she started helping her younger sister with a few dance steps. A few frames later they literally turned into gorgeous children simply enjoying dance and each other. That’s my idea of beautiful. That’s my idea of a photography – and sisterly – match made in heaven.

Because every stunning costumed dancer needs a sidekick (or two), enter Kate and Jay McCracken. By the way, sidekicks in jeans carrying a basketball are the perfect yin to your tulle yang. Completely unplanned and yet, so perfect. My two crazies rarely (if ever) come on location during photo shoots but this was a special treat. Honestly. They were delightful AND funny AND helpful. Because they came along to support their best friends, we now have these outtakes. I love them . . . the kids and the pictures.
