Happy New Year! My Family’s Holiday Photo Card

Welcome 2021! We’ve all been looking forward to you. 2020 was a crazy year and turning the calendar to 2021 is definitely a welcome act for most.

Fortunately, my family has remained COVID free and for the most part, we’ve enjoyed more family time than ever before. Yes we miss friends, after school activities, travel and so much more but we are six months away from having a high school senior and a high school freshman, so any extra time we can get with these teens is welcome. How is it possible that Kate will be graduating in 2022? Honestly, where in the world did the time go? I am definitely grateful for the extra family time we’ve had with her this year.

Speaking of time, I needed more. I ran out of time to shoot my own Christmas card. I know. It’s pretty ridiculous. But 2020 ended up being such a busy year for my photography business. Yes, we lost all of spring to COVID-19 quarantining but every single family and senior client – plus a few extras I was able to accommodate – gladly rescheduled for summer and fall. That made for a busy second half of the year and thus the reason I neglected photographing my own kids. But we’ve never done a New Year card and I love our final product from Minted!

Photos on Our New Year Card

On the front is a brand new picture of the kids. I photographed them just a few weeks ago at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms, South Carolina. On the back are a few great memories from 2020. We spent a lot of time outside enjoying the fresh air and opportunities to safely social distance. The top row from left to right includes Ryan learning to wake surf, Jay virtual learning, and me and my girl. On the bottom row is our dog Max, Jay golfing at Raintree and finally, Kate performing the role of Mrs. Potts at Charlotte Latin right before stages nationwide went dark. That was a sad day in this household. As was the day spring sports halted and Jay didn’t get to finish the golf season. At least Kate and her cast mates completed the entire run of Beauty & The Beast before COVID-19 restrictions began.

We are grateful for our health and the silver linings. I hope you and your family are staying safe and sane. I hope you are all looking forward to great things in 2021. Happy New Year from the McCrackens! We can’t wait to get off social media and back into real life social situations. Sending you all air hugs but looking forward to giving out real ones soon.

meet Abbe

Welcome to my blog! I’m a child and family photographer based in Charlotte NC.

Parents always ask, “what if my kid doesn’t listen?” My answer: that’s actually perfect. Don’t tell your children I said so, but personalities shine when listening ears fail. I welcome the silly. I want the giggles. I watch for honest smiles, real connections and stolen family moments.

This applies to your big kids and high school seniors too. Wink, Wink.
