This Uptown Charlotte photo session was EPIC! It included two Senior Portrait Sessions and a Family Session which is smart planning in my book. These days it’s hard enough for families to eat together much less find time for family pictures. But mom knew she wanted (and needed) new family photos too so we worked hard to find one date to accomplish it all. The result was efficient planning, effective use of everyone’s time and an epic photo shoot through Uptown Charlotte. It was so much fun.
Meet my friends the Smith family with twin graduates, Caroline and Ray. The twins graduated from Providence High School in June 2023 and as you will read below, they are quite the impressive duo. Our three-part session kicked off with Caroline’s Senior Portraits because twin brother Ray was enjoying the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow with his dad. This actually worked perfectly because it gave Caroline and me plenty of time to play with poses, change attire and even dance around Uptown before the boys arrived. By the time they joined us on The Green, her senior portraits were complete and we were ready to focus on family photos and Ray’s senior portraits.
The Golfer & The Dancer
If it wasn’t clear by his commitment to the Wells Fargo Championship, Ray loves golf. Sidenote: he’s also VERY good at it! He began golfing at age 7 and hasn’t slowed down since. Ray showed serious golf promise from an early age and even had a hole in one at Providence Country Club when he was 11. He has been a leading member of the Providence High School golf team for the last four years and played All Conference this year. This summer Ray played tournaments and continued strengthening his skills to hopefully play college golf.
Twin sister Caroline is a very accomplished ballerina. She began taking ballet classes when she was 3 and has since trained with some of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world. Here in Charlotte, she danced with Charlotte Ballet for two years and prior to that Charlotte Youth Ballet. Between the two, she has appeared in the city’s annual production of The Nutcracker every year since she was 7 years old. More recently, Caroline participated in summer training programs with Colorado Ballet, Boston Ballet, and just this summer, The Dutch National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Training there was a dream come true as she has wanted to dance at the Dutch National Opera and Ballet for many years. During this program, Prima Ballerina Anna Ol watched Caroline’s class and then allowed the students to watch her own rehearsal. Caroline said it was beyond thrilling. She is currently finishing three weeks of training at Joffrey Ballet Chicago before heading to college.
Next Chapters: Wofford College & American University
So you may be wondering where these super-twins are going to college?
Caroline is attending American University in Washington, D.C. as a Biochemistry major with a Dance minor. She wants to focus her science studies on research while keeping her love of dance alive.
Ray is off to Wofford College and plans to study Business and Finance. This decision was a long time coming, as he wore a Wofford shirt for his 5th grade school pictures. Ray’s mom attended Wofford as well so he is excited to continue the family legacy.
Congratulations Caroline and Ray on such successful high school careers. You have really bright futures ahead of you and I can’t wait to follow along. You are both so dedicated to your passions and have such strong work ethics. I admire that so much! Digging into what you love will never steer you wrong. Keep up the awesome work and have fun at American and Wofford. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your senior year!
