Baseball Photography | South Charlotte Recreation Association Spring Season Ends

My son Jay has been threatening to retire from baseball for several years now. In fact, two years ago I blogged about his pending baseball retirement. This will he/won’t he dance has been going on for a while. A few weeks ago he finished his spring season at South Charlotte Recreation Association. Sadly, I think his baseball career is officially over. After the loss, he said, “Mom, I should have brought a shovel.” Well, obviously. What? A shovel? Jay quickly elaborated to add that when you retire, you bury your cleats in key parts of the infield. Is this true? I can’t find a single historical fact about this online. Yes, I looked. Or, he continued, we could just hang them over the telephone wires. Interesting. But not happening. I’ll tell you what did happen though: I took my camera for his final farewell. His retirement rhetoric had been on repeat for several weeks so I was prepared. If this was the end of all ends, then I was going to document it right.

Here are just a few of my favorites from Jay’s last game of spring season, machine pitch baseball. I’ve included a collage from my new Blogstomp software and some individual pictures because as much as I love the collage, I still like seeing them bigger too. Yay for youth baseball photography!

I love baseball. I’m going to miss this season of his childhood. Maybe he’ll change his mind and play ball again in the fall. My fingers are crossed and my heart hopes yes, but my hunch is we’re done. See more of my baseball photography in these blog posts: Fall Baseball, Youth Sports Photography and Baseball Memories.

Welcome to my blog! I’m a child and family photographer based in Charlotte NC.

Parents always ask, “what if my kid doesn’t listen?” My answer: that’s actually perfect. Don’t tell your children I said so, but personalities shine when listening ears fail. I welcome the silly. I want the giggles. I watch for honest smiles, real connections and stolen family moments.

This applies to your big kids and high school seniors too. Wink, Wink.
