In Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina we have a petite park called The Green. It’s only a one and half acre park but what it lacks in space, it makes up for in photographic appeal. Sandwiched between the Mint Museum, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Charlotte Convention Center and Charlotte’s historic St. Peter’s Catholic Church, this small and serene green space offers the perfect urban edge for a family photo shoot. And it doesn’t hurt that Fuel Pizza is right next door. Bribery works people! But not on these kids. They don’t need it. They are pros.
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph this family many times over the last few years. Their mama loves photography as much as I do. I’ve often heard her say that in the unfortunate – and hopefully unlikely – event of a fire, she’s grabbing her family, her family pictures and the backups of her family pictures. Clearly family portraits mean a lot to her. She truly honors the moments and memories. I love working with clients like her because I know the images will have a life of their own in her home. Nothing makes me happier than to see those images displayed as custom wall art for the whole family to enjoy. We’ve been expanding a black and white canvas collage of her children upstairs for several years now. Every time we add a new canvas to the set, it’s another perfect puzzle piece in their family story. It’s a gorgeous collection that documents so many stages in her children’s lives. I want it. I also want the awesome grouping of metal prints we’ve designed for her husband’s office. METAL PRINTS! How perfect is that for a masculine touch, especially when coupled with the urban textures in the images below? I can’t wait to see our grouping from this session in his work space.
These clients are some of my favorites. They are another in my blessed list of friends-turned-clients-turned-family. They are some of our besties and while Fuel Pizza next door wasn’t needed for bribery, it sure was fun for us all to meet my family there after the shoot. Meet my amazing friends the Walsh family.
